DXF In, Cut-Ready G-code Out

VeloCut is a desktop app that nests your parts, plans every cut and writes the G-code for your CNC table. Open a DXF, pick a material, click Arrange, then Send to Table.

For Windows 10 and 11. Mac coming soon. Works offline.

In early development. New features are being added all the time.

Why VeloCut

  • Arrange Fills the Sheet

Parts nest tight, turn to fit and fill the holes of bigger parts.

  • Checked Before It Cuts

Every file passes VeloCut's checks before it is saved or sent.

  • Set Up Once

An admin sets the machine and presets. Engineers pick a material.

  • One Shop, Every Computer

Stock, presets and cost rates stay in sync across the company.

Four Steps From Drawing to Table

The machine and presets are set up once, so every job is the same four steps.

Drop DXF or SVG files on the canvas, or click Add Parts, then set how many of each. VeloCut joins tiny gaps, finds the holes, and asks for the units when a file doesn't say.

Each preset carries the kerf, feed, pierce and lead-ins for one material and thickness, so there is nothing to type.

One click nests every copy on the sheet with your spacing and edge margin. What doesn't fit goes on the next sheet, and any part can still be moved by hand.

Generate shows the toolpath with its time and cost. Send to Table writes the file to your table's folder and, if you keep stock in VeloCut, records the sheet as cut.

Every Cut Planned

Arrange, toolpaths and checks, from the first drawing to the cut sheet.

Automatic Arrange

Arrange packs every copy onto the sheet with the spacing and edge margin from the material, and keeps room for each lead-in so it never lands in a neighbor.

  • Gather parts in any corner, along the bottom or up the left side.
  • Keep parts as drawn, or turn them in 90°, 45° or 15° steps, or to any angle.
  • Search 5 seconds, 30 seconds or 2 minutes for a tighter fit.
  • Fill Holes puts small parts inside the holes of big ones, and cuts them first.
  • Lock the parts you placed by hand, and Arrange fills around them.

Share Cuts and One Pierce per Block

Share Cuts packs copies of a rectangle into blocks two deep that share their cut lines, so each shared edge is cut once. With One Pierce per Block the torch stays on from line to line, and the block's lines start from a single pierce.

  • Holes come first and the block's outline last, so every copy stays held to the plate.
  • Blocks turn only in quarter turns and keep a lane around them for the links.
  • Share Cuts is a switch in Arrange; One Pierce per Block is a preset setting.

See Every Cut Before It Runs

Preview draws the real toolpath: cuts in red, lead-ins lighter, rapids dashed and pierces as rings. Play it back at up to 100x, or step from cut to cut.

  • Pierces, cut length, rapid length, estimated time and sheet use for every sheet.
  • Drag a start point along its outline to move where a part pierces, on every copy.
  • Preview lists what to set on the controller, and each issue points to its spot.

Safe Output, Every Time

Every file is checked before it is saved or sent. A file that fails is never written, and VeloCut says what to fix.

  • Every move stays inside the bed.
  • The torch is never on during a rapid, and every torch on has its torch off.
  • Every arc measures the same from both ends.
  • No missing or broken numbers, and the file ends the way the controller expects.

Heights belong to the controller. Torchmate VMD sets them from its own cut chart, so VeloCut writes no Z moves for it at all.

Presets an Admin Sets Once

An admin sets up the machine, the post and a preset for each material and thickness. Engineers pick a material and get the same kerf, feeds and lead-ins every time.

  • Start from a ready-made machine profile for your controller.
  • Calibrate the kerf from a test coupon: cut it, measure it, and VeloCut works it out.
  • Small holes get their own feed and lead-ins.
  • An optional admin PIN, or company admins, keep settings in the right hands.

Know Your Stock and Your Costs

Every sheet is accounted for, and every job comes with a price.

Stock and Remnants

Keep every sheet in stock with a label, size and location. Send to Table records what was cut from it, with the exact shape of every part, so the rest of the sheet is ready for the next job.

  • Start a job on a piece from stock, and Arrange keeps clear of its earlier cuts.
  • Find Stock picks the piece with the least room that still takes the whole job.
  • Reserve a piece for a job, so no one else plans on it.
  • Cut History shows what came off each piece, and a cut can be taken back.

Job Cost Estimates

Set a machine rate, a setup fee, a markup and a price per pound for each material. Generate then prices the job: material by weight, machine time, setup, cost and price.

  • A job pays for the area of the sheet it uses, remnants included.
  • Area an earlier job already cut is never charged twice.
  • Saving new rates reprices the job on screen.

Built for the Whole Shop

Everyone works from the same stock, presets and machine, on every computer.

Company Accounts

Create a company and invite people by email or with a code. Admins look after the machine, presets and cost rates, and everyone else uses them.

  • Invite codes work once and expire after 7 days.
  • A company always keeps an admin.
  • Signed in, being an admin takes the place of the admin PIN.
  • No account is needed to use VeloCut on one computer.

Sync Between Shop Computers

Stock, cut history, shop presets, cost rates and the machine an admin shares stay the same on every computer in the company.

  • Each computer keeps working offline and catches up when it's back online.
  • A change on one computer reaches the others right away.
  • A new computer can set itself up from the company's machine.
  • Every computer keeps its own table folder.

Machine Profiles

VeloCut cuts with plasma today. Start from a ready-made profile, or shape the general post for any other plasma controller.

  • Torchmate VMD
  • LinuxCNC QtPlasmaC
  • Mach3
  • Mach4
  • GRBL
  • FluidNC
  • Langmuir FireControl
  • Hypertherm Phoenix and EDGE Connect
  • Any Other Plasma Controller

Each profile is written from its controller's own documentation. On a Torchmate X, a VeloCut file runs clean in a VMD Dry Run.

Questions

Which files can VeloCut open?

DXF files, blocks included, and SVG. Splines and ellipses come in as lines and true arcs, so the G-code stays smooth.

Does VeloCut need the internet?

No. Everything works offline. With a company account, sync uses the internet when it's there and catches up when it comes back.

Does it set torch heights?

Only for controllers that need heights in the file. Controllers that set their own, like Torchmate VMD, get no Z moves.

Where does the G-code go?

Send to Table writes it to your table's folder, on the network or a USB drive, and Save G-code puts it wherever you choose. After writing to a USB drive, VeloCut offers to eject it.

What does VeloCut run on?

Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. A Mac version is coming soon.

Which machines does VeloCut work with?

CNC plasma tables today, with a ready-made profile for each controller above. More kinds of machines are planned.

Is VeloCut still being built?

Yes. VeloCut is in early development, and new features are being added all the time.
